Men’s Basketball Falls to Yale in Ivy Opener, 80-70

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bears threatened and made it a four-point ballgame with 3:36 remaining, but Yale (10-6, 1-0 Ivy League) was able to secure the 80-70 victory over Brown (4-12, 0-1 Ivy League) on Tuesday evening in the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Kino Lilly Jr. scored 19 points in second half for a game-high 23 points. He surpassed Matt Mullery '10 and color commentator Russ Tyler '71 in career scoring with 1,135 points (No. 23 all-time). He added four assists and four rebounds. Nana Owusu-Anane posted his seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Aaron Cooley added 13 points and two steals.
FIRST HALF
Yale led by as much as 19 in the first half, but the Bears cut the deficit to 13 at the break. Cooley posted 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting and added two steals, while Kalu Anya had eight points and two steals. Owusu-Anane finished the first with five points and six rebounds.
For the Bulldogs, Danny Wolf recorded 12 points and six boards.
SECOND HALF
Brown got off to a fast start with five unanswered to begin the second stanza. After a Yale three ended the run, Lilly Jr. followed with a stepback to cut the Yale lead to single digits.
The Bears continued to chip away, cutting the Yale lead to four with 3:36 to go before the Bulldogs escaped the Pizz with the win.
