Women’s Water Polo Splits Season Opening Day, Defeats La Verne 22-8

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 24 Brown University (1-1) defeated No. 5 (DIII) La Verne (0-1) 22-8 in Saturday's season-opening tournament. The Bears began the Beach Invite in the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center with an 11-10 setback to No. t25 Biola (2-0).
Cleo Washer collected three goals and five assists on the day and Claire Possonnier registered six goals. Roxy Hazuka started both games with four saves against Biola and three vs. La Verne. Sarah Decker came in and played the second half.
No. t25 Biola defeats No. 24 Brown 11-10
Alicia Fregoso earned the win for the Eagles with three saves after entering the second half.
After the two programs scored two goals apiece in the first period, Brown exploded for four goals in the second to carry a 6-4 lead into the half. The Eagles knotted the match at 9-all with a five-goal third before a late powerplay goal with seven seconds remaining gave Biola an 11-10 win.
Claire Poissonnier posted four goals and an assist for five points, Ella Palmer added two goals, Washer collected a goal and two assists, Emily Suong had one goal and one assist, and Madeleine Poissonnier and Sophie Golub each had one goal.

Brown shined all game against the Leopards, highlighted by Washer's two goals and three assists. Claire Poissonnier, Tallulah Clancy, Ella Palmer and Hana Homma recorded two goals apiece. Sierra Martin and Aubrie Anderson each finished with three goals and Malia Chavinson added three points with two goals and an assist.
