Volleyball Moves to 4-0 With Sweep of Stonehill

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball (4-0) made quick work of Stonehill (0-8), winning in straight-sets on Tuesday night.
The Bears hit a season-best .439 on the night with six players hitting .500 or better. Kayla Griebl led Brown with 10 kills. Mariia Sidorova had nine kills, hitting .500 and Beau Vanderlaan had eight kills, hitting .800. Cierra Jenkins led Brown with 24 assists and Jessie Golden had eight.
Brown held Stonehill to .154 hitting as the Bears have now held all four opponents to under .154 hitting. Jessie Golden led Brown's backline with 12 digs, giving her double-digit digs in all four games this season. At the net, Brown had eight blocks, led by Vanderlaan's five and Gabby Derrick's three.
The Bears also has more success at the service line with seven aces. Golden and Melie Vaioleti each had two aces.
Brown came out hot to start the game, using a 9-0 run to take an 11-2 lead. Two kills by Griebl plus kills by Vanderlaan and Derrick spanned a 5-1 run by the Bears to go up 22-13. A Jilienne Widener kill gave Brown a 25-15 set win.
Set two was more of the same for Brown as the Bears jumped ahead 10-3. Brown's offense was extremely efficient in the second set, hitting .630, finishing with 19 kills and just two errors. Back-to-back service aces by Vaioleti ended a 7-1 run for Brown that put the Bears up 17-6. Sidorova and Griebl had kills to end the set at 25-11.
Stonehill went up 10-6 early in the third set but the Bears responded with a 7-1 run that ended with blocks by the duos of Derrick and Kate Sheire and Griebl and Derrick. Stonehill didn't go quietly, pulling within one at 19-18 but a 6-1 run by Brown closed out the match.

Brown will make a road trip to George Mason for three games next Friday (Sept. 8) and Saturday (Sept. 9).
