Two Bears Earn All-New England Honors at NEICAAA XC Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Two Brown cross country runners earned All-New England honors on Saturday as the Bears competed at the NEICAAA Championships at Franklin Park in Boston. Making her season debut, senior Stephanie Kriss led the women's team in fourth place overall out of 160 runners, while senior Evan Sherman finished fifth overall out of 139 runners to both earn All-New England honors.
As a team, the Brown men took home fourth place out of 15 teams with 135 points, while the women took eighth out of 18 with 207 points. All-New England honors were presented to the top 15 runners in each of the championship races.
Sherman led the pack of just five men's runners in fifth place overall with a time of 25:24.5. Running his first collegiate 8K, freshman Matt Wing was next in Brown's pack in 18th place overall in 26:20.6. Sophomore Jason Markopoulos (25th/26:35.9), senior Naveen Sharma (31st/26:41.4) and freshman Sebastian Margetts (69th/27:37.1) rounded out the Bears' runners.
On the women's side, Kriss led the Bears with a strong season debut in the 6K run, earning the fourth place finish by crossing the line in 18:30.3. Sophomore Olivia Takla followed in 40th place in 19:40.4 and sophomore Sara Perez (47th/19:52.6) finished 47th overall. First-years Katrina Sortland (63rd/20:10.0) and Caroline McCool (71st/20:28.5) rounded out the team's five scorers, with sophomore Olivia Bergin (83rd/20:39.9) and freshman Julia Soderbury (116th/21:45.4) completing the team's top seven.
Brown will compete once again this coming Friday, October 13 with a trip to Van Cortland Park for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
