LOWELL, Mass. – The Brown Bears (4-3, 0-1 Ivy League) fell in non-conference play at UMass Lowell (7-2, 1-0 America East) on Sunday, dropping a 2-0 match to the River Hawks.
After a scoreless opening quarter, the River Hawks struck with 2:14 remaining in the second quarter off a penalty corner. Madison Leeper re-directed Alissia De Vries' pass for her third goal of the season.
Kylee Del Monte (8 saves) made a nice stop on Leeper halfway through the third quarter to keep the Bears within a goal.
After a stellar initial and second save by Del Monte, Leeper finished the third effort to double the River Hawk lead with six minutes remaining in the third.
Lucy Adams sprinted past a Lowell defender and ripped a shot on net early in the fourth, but it was saved by Marie Oliemans. Brown drew a corner off the play and had another shot on goal, but Lexi Pellegrino's effort was also turned aside.
The Bears had another penalty corner late in the fourth but were unable to cut into the lead.
Brown heads to Hanover, New Hampshire next Saturday (Sept. 30) to take on the Dartmouth Big Green (3-3, 0-2 Ivy League). Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at noon and will stream on ESPN+.
