Women's Tennis Battles on Day Two of Hall of Fame Invite

NEWPORT, R.I. - Brown women's tennis won three of four matches on the second day of the The Hall of Fame Invitational. The Bears went against pairs from Dartmouth College in each match.

Due to weather in the area, the morning matches were played inside. Junior Lindsey Hofflander and sophomore Phoebe Peus first defeated Dartmouth's senior Ameliija Swaffer-Self and freshman Caroline Lemke (8-6). Senior Olivia Mariotti and junior Addison Ahlstrom then dropped an 8-4 decision to Dartmouth's senior Katie Weber and junior Elizabeth Fahrmeier after leading 3-2.

The rain cleared and the afternoon matches were held on the outdoor grass courts. Hofflander and Peus took down Weber and Fahrmeier (6-4, 6-2), while Ahlstrom and Mariotti bounced back to defeat Swaffer-Self and Lemke (6-2, 6-3).

"In today's matches, Addie and Olivia showed an ability to bounce back and adjust after a disappointing loss this morning," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "They played with more clarity and courage in their second match. Lindsey and Phoebe continue to play their fearless game style, coming out on top in both their matches. They showed willingness to make adjustments and were clutch during pivotal moments of each match. They continue to grow as a team and it's been fun to watch their evolution."

Hofflander and Peus play for the championship on Sunday against senior Lexi Dewire and freshman Michela Moore. Matches begin at 10:30 a.m. on the outdoor courts.
