PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head women's lacrosse coach Katrina Dowd has announced the additions of assistant coaches Taylor Gait and Taylor Scotton to her coaching staff.
Gait comes to College Hill from San Diego State where she has served as an assistant coach since 2019. During her time there, she served as the Offensive Coordinator and coached the nation's goals per game leader and a Tewaaraton Watch List finalist.
Before joining the Aztec's staff, Gait was a four-year standout at Syracuse from 2015-18. She made 61 starts in 82 appearances at midfield, playing for her father, Gary Gait, who was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2005. During that span, she netted 99 points on 72 goals and 27 assists to go with 51 ground balls, 26 caused turnovers and 14 draw controls. In 2018, Gait earned IWLCA All-Northeast Region honors.
In addition to her time at Syracuse, Gait brings a wealth of international playing experience as a member of the Canadian National Team since 2016, winning silver medals with her squad at the 2017 World Cup in Guildford, England, as well as the World Games in Wroclaw, Poland that same year.
"I am thrilled to have Taylor Gait become a part of our Brown women's lacrosse family," Dowd said. "Her passion and dedication to the sport of lacrosse is impressive. I can't wait for her to work with our players. Her energy and creative spirit will bring Brown women's lacrosse to the next level."
Scotton joins the Bears after a stellar playing and coaching career at the University of North Carolina. As a player, she was a team captain and four-year starting defender from 2008-11. She helped lead UNC to the NCAA Championship Game in 2009 and the national semifinal in 2010 and 2011. Scotton set a then-UNC record by starting 80 career contests, including 70 in a row beginning late in her freshman year.
As an assistant coach from 2015-18, Scotton helped lead the Tar Heels to the 2016 National Championship, three ACC Tournament Championships, and four regular season ACC Championships. Over the four seasons, she helped UNC amass a 72-13 overall record and a 25-3 ACC mark. During the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Scotton and Dowd coached together on UNC's staff.
Most recently, Scotton served as a certified official with the CWLOA.
"I am excited to welcome Taylor Scotton to Brown," Dowd said. "As a player and coach at the University of North Carolina, she brings a wealth of knowledge on the defensive end and a championship background. I am looking forward to sharing the sideline with her again and for our student athletes to learn and grow under Taylor's leadership."
