PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second time this season, Brown second baseman Mark Henshon has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Henshon registered a hit in all four games last week, helping to power Brown to a series win at Princeton over the weekend. He went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI on Tuesday at Holy Cross, while also adding in a successful sac bunt for a safety squeeze/RBI.
He added one hit in each game on Saturday, including a pivotal RBI single to push Brown's lead to 5-3 in the eighth inning of game two. Henshon added another three-hit game in five at bats on Sunday with a season-high four RBIs to power the Bears to an 11-4 victory. He delivered a two-run single to put Brown ahead for good, 4-3, in the second inning, and added RBI knocks in the fifth and ninth innings. He posted a .500/.529/.563 slash line for the week.
Henshon's honor is the fifth weekly Ivy award for the Bears this season. Henshon was previously named the Rookie for the Week on April 10, joining Carter Rasmussen (March 6) and Mika Petersen (Rookie and Player) on May 2.
Brown's four Rookie of the Week honors this season are tied with Penn for the most in the Ivy League, and Brown is the only team to have three different players win the award.
Henshon finishes his rookie campaign with a .305 batting average (fourth-highest on the team) in 19 appearances (16 starts). Brown concluded the season at 12-26 overall and in sixth place in the Ivy League at 9-12.
