
McNeil and Odenigbo Win Titles, Yeboah-Kodie Wins Award on Final Day of Heps

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Lauren Yeboah-Kodie was named the championship's Most Outstanding Field Performer, and juniors John McNeil and Chiamaka Odenigbo both won their respective high jump titles to lead the Brown track and field teams on Sunday's second and final day of the Ivy League Heptagonal Track & Field Championships.
Junior Brooke Ury also made headlines by breaking a 23-year old school record in the 100-meter hurdles.
Yeboah-Kodie was voted the women's Most Outstanding Field Performer by the league's head coaches after winning the gold on Saturday in the long jump, and finishing runner-up in the triple jump on Sunday, in addition to placing seventh the 100m hurdle finals.
As a team, Brown finished sixth on the women's side with 52 points, while the men's team finished seventh with 37 points. Harvard captured both the men's and women's titles while Princeton finished runner-up on both sides.
WOMEN
Brown was the only school to qualify three runners into the eight-member finals of the 100 meter hurdles, where Ury set a new school record by finishing fifth in 13.83 seconds, surpassing the old benchmark of 13.85 which was set by Lindsay Taylor '01 in 2000. Odenigbo (14.05) took home sixth place while Yeboah-Kodie (14.07) followed in seventh place, with Odenigbo's mark ranking seventh in the school's all-time top performers list.
In the triple jump, Yeboah-Kodie led Brown by taking runner-up with her performance of 12.95 meters. Jada Joseph followed at 12.62 meters in fourth place, which moves her into seventh on the program's all-time list. Odenigbo followed closely behind in sixth overall on Sunday with a leap of 12.45 meters.
Odenigbo took home the gold in the high jump, the second Ivy title of her career following her win in the pentathlon at the 2023 Indoor Heps. Her winning high jump cleared 1.75 meters and ranks t-8th on the program all-time top performers list. Following behind Odenigbo was Rudecia Bernard, who finished third overall for the bronze with a 1.69-meter leap. Makaya Fofana finished fifth by also clearing 1.69 meters.
Anjoli Mathew earned a team point by finishing sixth in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles in 1:00.97.
Emma Gallant moved into eighth on the school's all-time performance list with her time of 24.31 in the 200 meter finals.
The heptathlon concluded its final events with Adrienne Usher finishing third overall with 4,688 points.
MEN
McNeil's high jump title is the third of his career, joining his two previous Heps titles at the 2022 and 2023 Ivy Indoor Championships. It came as he cleared 2.11 meters on his second attempt, one fewer than the runner-up finisher. Senior Sidarth Raman cleared 1.97 meters to score team points in fifth place overall.
Freshman Joseph Oduro earned a bronze medal in the triple jump, setting a new personal record at 15.16 meters and earn six team points.
The Bears landed two relay times in the top-10 all-time in program history on Sunday. The 4x100 meter team of Marcus Gillespie, Zach Love, Jason Estrada and Daniel Sarisky finished with the No. 6 time in program history at 41.16 seconds, good enough for sixth place overall.
The 4x400 meter team finished in fifth place with the third-fastest time in program history at 3:11.08 from Jack Kelley, Jason Estrada, Joshua Lim and Love.
Gillespie picked up a point in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.35.
Up next, qualified athletes will compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships next weekend, May 12-14 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
