Sailing Takes Third at Open Team Race Nationals, 12th at Women's Fleet Race

KING'S POINT, N.Y. – The Brown sailing teams have completed competition at two of the three ICSA Spring National Championships. The women's team took 12th out of 18 teams at the Women's Fleet Race Nationals and the coed team came in third of 16 teams at the Open Team Race Nationals.
In the Women's Fleet Race, the Bears started out in the Eastern Semifinal where they placed eighth with a score of 109 to advance to the finals. Yale won the Eastern Semis with a 72 while Stanford claimed the Western Semis with a 60. The top nine teams from both semifinals qualified for the finals.
The top three of the finals were comprised of Stanford (96), Yale (123), and Boston College (138). Brown's score of 207 put them in 12th.
The Bears were represented in Division A by Caroline Bayless, Brielle Willoughby, Nora Ong, Helen Horangic, and Brianna Ross. In Division B for Brown were Blaire McCarthy, Katharine Doble, Francesca Edmands, Savannah Young, and Ong. Brown took 15th in Division A and ninth in Division B.
Harvard won the Open Team Race Nationals with a 19-3 record over the three days. Stanford (18-4) placed second with Brown just behind in third.
After the first two days of competition, the field of 16 was cut down to the top either. The Bears made that cut and its 15-7 record eventually claimed third place for the event.
Guthrie Braun, Jed Bell, Liam O'Keefe, and Connor Nelson served as skippers, while Emily Mueller, Young, Lily Shore, Ong, Edmands, Isabel Cox, and Horangic were the crews.
Competition at King's Point continues today as the Open Fleet Race Nationals run from May 30-June 2.
