Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Cornell in Season Finale

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Brown women's lacrosse team defeated Cornell 14-9 to wrap its 2023 season.
"It was a total team effort against a strong Cornell team," head coach Keely McDonald said. "It was our most complete game of the year, offensively, defensively, and for four quarters. I'm really proud of the legacy and toughness of the seniors and this particular squad."
The Bears were led on the day by Claire Jeschke's season-high six points from five goals and one assist. Jeschke finishes the season with a team-high 37 points.
Mia Mascone had five points against the Big Red (3G, 2A) and Maddie Joyce scored three times, Annie Burton did so twice, and Julia Ford once. Alyssa Levy had two assists and Jackie Mason and Greta Criqui each had one.
Margaret Woodberry made 10 saves in goal for the Bears to earn the win, while also picking up three ground balls and causing one turnover.
As a team, Brown edged Cornell in the draw control battle 14-13. Paige Gillen paced the Bears with five.
Brown started the game out hot, cruising to a 6-3 lead after one quarter of action. Jeschke led all scorers with a hat trick in the opening frame.
The Bears were unable to find the back of the net in the second quarter, as the Big Red scored twice to close the gap to 6-5 Brown headed into halftime.
Despite Cornell tying the game at six early in the second half, the Bears ended up outscoring the Big Red 3-2 in the third and 5-2 in the fourth to pick up the 14-9 victory.
Joyce accounted for all three of Brown's goals during the third, while all five of the Bears' goals in the fourth were scored by either Mascone or Jeschke.
