Men's Lacrosse Heads to Bryant for Ocean State Cup Battle

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears head to Smithfield, Rhode Island to take on the Bryant Bulldogs in a battle for the Ocean State Cup Tuesday night at Beirne Stadium.
Tomorrow night's game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Tuesday with a 5-7 overall record and 1-4 Ivy League mark. The Bears look to snap a two-game skid against Bryant in the non-conference finale.
- Devon McLane leads the Bears offensively with 41 points. He leads the team with 17 assists and ranks second on the team with 24 goals. Sophomore Aidan McLane leads the team with 27 goals and ranks second on the team with 35 points.
- As a team, Brown averages 12.33 goals per game along with 6.83 assists per game.
- Brown's man-up offense enters Tuesday clicking at .342 (13-for-38). Brown has scored on its last four man-up opportunities.
- Defensively, Brown allows 13.08 goals per game. Junior Connor Theriault has started all 12 games between the pipes and holds a .506 save percentage and 13.13 goals against average.
- Brown's man-down defense has allowed 11 goals in 29 attempts (.621) to rank in the middle of the NCAA.
- As a team, Brown wins 58.5% of its faceoffs with senior Matthew Gunty leading the team at 63.6%. Gunty has won 168-of-264 faceoffs this season along with 70 ground balls.
- Bryant enters Tuesday night with a 9-3 overall record and 5-1 America East conference mark. The Bulldogs have secured a spot in the America East Tournament.
- Offensively, Bryant averages 15.25 goals per game to rank inside the top-10 nationally.
- Freshman Johnny Hackett leads the team with 36 goals and is one of 20 players nationally averaging at least 3.00 goals per game.
- Senior Kevin Groeninger leads the team with 22 assists and 51 points. His 29 goals rank third behind Hackett and redshirt freshman Jack Lonsinger (34).
- In total, Bryant has five players with at least 30 points this season.
The Bulldogs enter Tuesday with a .906 clear percentage to rank inside the NCAA top-20. - Bryant's man-up offense has 11 goals in 25 attempts (.440) to rank inside the NCAA top-25.
- Defensively, Bryant allows 11.72 goals per game. Goalie Teagan Alexander has started 11 games and holds a .498 save percentage and 11.88 goals against average. He most recently recorded 18 saves in Bryant's 14-10 win over Binghamton (Apr. 22).
- Junior Nathan Laliberte has taken the bulk of the faceoffs this season and holds a .622 win-rate (145-233). He averages 7.16 ground balls per game and contributes offensively with seven goals and 13 points through 12 games.
- Senior Jacob Alexander holds a .508 win-rate at X with 44 ground balls as Bryant's second option.
- Tuesday night marks the 13th meeting between Brown and Bryant in a series dating back to 2009.
- Brown holds an 8-4 all-time record against the in-state rivals and a 4-1 record in Smithfield.
- Brown looks for its third straight win in the series to match the longest series streak, set from 2013-15.
- Tuesday's winner will capture the Ocean State Cup.
- For Brown, it would mark the second straight title and eighth in program history.

- Gunty has won at least half of his faceoffs in 10 straight games.
- In 2023, he holds a .636 win-rate (168-264) at X along with 70 ground balls.
- He leads the Ivy League and ranks inside the NCAA top-10 in faceoff percentage.
- His 6.36 ground balls per game rank inside the NCAA top-25.
- Sophomore Matteo Corsi recorded his first career hat trick with three goals and an assist against Harvard (Mar. 18).
- He added his second career hat trick against Princeton (Apr. 1) and his third career hat trick against Cornell (Apr. 22).
- Corsi has at least a point in seven straight games and is third on the team with 17 goals and 21 points.
