Baseball to Host URI on Tuesday to Start Long Homestand

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team will kick off a seven-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon with an Ocean State battle against URI at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium. The matchup starts a stretch of 10 of the next 11 games at home. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.

SCOUTING BROWN (7-17, 4-5 Ivy)
- Brown has won three games in a row, coming off its first series sweep of the season at Cornell by scores of 12-8, 1-0 and 5-2.
- Freshman second baseman Mark Henshon was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after going 5-for-9 with two walks and three runs scored in his first three career starts this past weekend at Cornell.
- As a pitching staff, Brown struck out 37 batters, issued 10 walks and held Cornell to a .210 batting average over the three games.
- Sophomore Santhosh Gottam pitched into the eighth inning of Saturday's 1-0 win, tossing 7.0+ innings (career-long) while striking out a career-high eight batters. It marked the first time in his career that he did not allow an earned run in an outing of at least 5.0 innings.
- Senior Tobey McDonough allowed just one run on three hits over 5.2 innings to earn the win in Sunday's finale, and tied his career-high with eight strikeouts.
- Freshman Mika Petersen went 6-for-12 with three runs scored and two RBIs and a walk in the series. He now has an 11-game hitting streak and has reached base in 13 straight games. His weekend raised his season batting average 33 points to .325.
- Senior catcher Jacob Burley leads the Bears with a .337 batting average 29 hits and is tied for the team lead with 17 runs. He also leads qualifying players with a .431 on-base pct.
- Closer Jack Seppings pitched all three games at Cornell and earned two saves, striking out eight over 4.2 innings.
- Senior Derian Morphew has a hit in eight of his last nine games and has reached base safely in 13 of his last 14 games. He leads the team with 11 doubles.
- Freshman DJ Dillehay has an 11-game hitting streak and is now up to a .347 batting average, having a hit in all 10 of his starts.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND (11-16, 3-3 A-10)
- URI took two out of three games this weekend from Fordham on the road.
- Rhode Island is 1-2 in midweek games this season, taking down Quinnipiac 8-7 on March 28.
- Redshirt junior Addison Kopack, a Preseason Collegiate Baseball All-American, has hit safely in 12 of his last 15 games, and enters Tuesday riding a 19-game on-base streak.
- As a team, URI is batting .251 and averaging 5.93 runs per game.
- The team's ERA is 6.80, with batters hitting .288 against.
