McNeil Defends High Jump Title on Final Day of Ivy League Heps

HANOVER, N.H. – Junior John McNeil successfully defended his indoor high jump title to highlight the final day of competition for Brown on Sunday at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. McNeil's second career Ivy title helped the Bears sweep the top two spots in the men's high jump, with teammate Sidarth Raman taking second place in the event.
On the women's side, Lauren Yeboah-Kodie capped a strong weekend with her second runner-up performance of the championships, finishing second in the triple jump, and fourth in the 60 meter hurdles.
As a team, Brown's men finished in seventh place with 34 points, while the women took home sixth place with 48 points. Each team had one individual champion at the championships with McNeil's win in the high jump, and Chiamaka Odenigbo's victory in the pentathlon on Saturday.
MEN
McNeil took home the second Ivy title of his career in the high jump, joining his indoor high jump championship from last season. McNeil cleared a height of 2.10 meters to take home the gold, finishing just ahead of Raman, who came one centimeter shy of his PR at 2.07 meters, finishing runner-up. It was the second podium finish for McNeil this weekend, following up his third place finish in the triple jump on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the jumps on Sunday, freshman Joseph Oduro turned out a leap of 14.56m to take seventh in the finals of the triple jump.
In the finals of the 60 meter hurdles, junior Marcus Gillespie set a new personal record by 0.04 seconds and took sixth place overall in 8.08, improving his time for the No. 5 mark on the program's all-time top 10 performers list.
In the finals of the 400 meters, Jack Kelley finished on the podium in third place in 48.37 seconds, setting a new PR by 0.03 seconds and improving his No. 7 all-time mark in program history.
Senior Aaron Siff-Scherr competed in Sunday's 1,000 meter finals, finishing seventh in 2:29.14.
In the relays, the 4x800m team of Jesse Edelstein, Henry Wood, Naveen Sharma and Aaron Siff Scherr turned in Brow's best time of the year in the event.
WOMEN
Yeboah-Kodie (12.93m) finished runner-up in the triple jump, setting a new personal record and moving herself into fourth on program's all-time list.
Freshman Nene Mokonchu finished her first heps with a third place showing in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters and moving her into a tie for 10th on the program's top-10 performers list.
Brown picked up six points in the 60 meter hurdles, led by Yeboah-Kodie setting a new personal record in 8.55 seconds to take home fourth place overall. Classmate Brooke Ury finished right behind in fifth place overall, crossing the finish line in 8.59 seconds.
In the 500 meter finals, freshman Jenna Lowrey captured a team point with her time of 1:16.30. Amy Willig also competed in the 500m finals for Brown, finishing in 1:16.66.
In the relays, the Bears turned in season-best times in both the 4x400, with Lowrey, Emma Gallant, Amy Willig and Anjoli Mathew combining for 3:50.76 in the 4x4, and Nimrit Ahuja, Olivia Takla, Julia Schriefer and Stephanie Kriss competing in the 4x8.
Mackenzie Palinski set a new personal record of 16.90 meters in the weight throw to finish in 10th place, moving her into the top 10 performers list in Brown history to No. 8.
