PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team took care of business with a 7-0 sweep over Villanova Saturday morning at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Â
The Bears improve to 7-3 on the year, while the Wildcats fall to 1-7.
Â
As they've done all year, doubles picked up the first point of the match. Juniors Olivia Mariotti and Ali Benedetto first took third doubles (6-2), while freshman Vivian Miller and junior Lindsey Hofflander won at second doubles (6-4).
Â
Singles kept it rolling with wins by sophomore Addison Ahlstrom at third singles (6-1, 6-0), Mariotti at fourth singles (6-2, 6-1), Benedetto at second singles (6-3, 6-3), Miller at first singles (7-5, 6-1) and Hofflander at fifth singles (8-4). Sophomore Gabby Soliman picked up a win as well at sixth singles.
Â
"Another solid performance by our team," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "Once again, we found a way to get the doubles point and I thought we came out really strong in singles play. Our players kept playing with clarity and willingness to finish points at the net, which is a very important part of our team's identity. We were able to close out some close sets assertively and with aggression. As we enter the second half of our spring competition, it is important to continue to raise the bar in practice and competition."
