PHILADELPHIA – The Brown men's soccer season came to a close in the Ivy League Championship game against Yale, 2-1, on Sunday at Penn Park in Philadelphia.
Junior Harri Sprofera netted his first goal of the season from classmate Tanner Barry in the 76th minute. Scoring for Yale were junior Ryan Cote and senior Eric Lagos.
"First congratulations to Yale, Kylie and his staff," said Chase Wileman, Friends of Brown men's soccer Head Coaching Chair. "It's disappointing of course, but no fault to our team, we worked incredibly hard, threw everything at them and we came up a little bit short."
"I want to thank the seniors," said Wileman. "Those guys put in an incredible amount of work and took ownership of our program and left this place in a better spot than they found it. Also want to thank the coaching staff and everyone involved in Brown men's soccer for the hard work that they've put in this season. We want to continue this momentum playing in these moments. We will go back to work, continue to grow and we'll be back."
Picked seventh in the Ivy League preseason poll, the Bears defied expectations and went unbeaten in their previous 12 matches, including an undefeated conference season.
Senior Hudson Blatteis became the first goalkeeper in Ivy League history to not allow a conference goal in the regular season and Brown tied the 1986 Yale team for the fewest goals conceded in an Ivy regular season.
The Bears will now work toward spring ball as they prepare for the 2024 regular season.
