Football Falls at Cornell in Ivy League Battle

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Brown football team fell on the road by a score of 36-14 at Cornell on Saturday afternoon. The Bears dug themselves a 33-0 hole midway through the third quarter before scoring back-to-back touchdowns, but were unable to get any closer as a stingy Cornell defense and consistent offense dominated the time of possession and held the Brown offensive attack to season lows in total yards and points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Cornell totaled 434 yards of total offense, 330 of which came through the air, while its defense held Brown to 298 total yards.
Brown entered the game leading the nation in passing yards per game, but was limited to just 208 yards through the air.
The Big Red nearly doubled-up Brown in time of possession, controlling the tempo offensively for nearly 40 minutes of gameplay.
Graham Walker and Solomon Miller each had receiving touchdowns with 61 yards receiving to lead the wideouts.
Quarterback Jake Willcox was the Bears leading rusher with 51 yards on the ground on seven carries. He also threw for 208 yards through the air.
Ethan Royer had a team-high nine tackles on defense, while Cooper DeVeau, Isaiah Gamble and Isaiah Reed each added seven stops.
Tim Malo grabbed his first career interception and added a career-high six tackles (five solo).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Cornell opened the scoring on their second possession on a 37-yard catch and run from Jameson Wang to Doryn Smith, who eluded a pair of defenders by the sideline at 9:30.
Cornell tacked on early in the second quarter by going on a 12-play, 80-yard drive, capped by a seven-yard run by Ean Pope to go up 14-0 at 13:37.
Cornell pushed the lead to 17-0 with 6:17 left until halftime on a 35-yard field goal following a 13-play, 57-yard drive.
After Cornell grabbed an interception at the Brown 20-yard line, the Bears defense made stops on three consecutive plays and held the Big Red to a 28-yard field goal as time expired on the half to push the lead to 20-0.

Cornell outgained Brown by a 262-36 margin in the opening half, and dominated the time of possession by holding the ball for over 21 minutes.
Cornell tacked on with a touchdown on their opening possession of the second half with a 37-yard pass from Wang to Matt Robbert. Reed blocked the extra point to keep it 26-0.
After Brown moved the ball across midfield for the first time, Cornell's Paul Lewis III came away with a pick-six on the very next play to make it 33-0.
Miller got Brown on the board with 5:48 to go in the third quarter, catching a pass over the middle then pulling away from the defenders for a 61-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown.
Aubrey Parker broke up a pass at the five-yard line that was intercepted by Malo and returned across the 30. Brown's offense turned that into points as Willcox eluded the rush and found Walker in the end zone, who out-muscled the defender for a leaping 43-yard touchdown catch to bring Brown within 33-14 at 1:30 of the third quarter.
Cornell capped the scoring with a 42-yard field goal with 2:03 remaining.

Brown will hit the road once again on a short week and head to Penn for an Ivy League showdown on Friday evening, October 27 at Franklin Field.
