PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ken Hunt, Brown's Alden-Rothenberg Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Coaching Chair has announced the hiring of Darcy Wilson as the program's new Associate Head Coaching Chair for Throwing Events.
An experienced coach with demonstrated success at the Division I level, Wilson is no stranger to Brown or the Ivy League as she begins her second stint with the Bears, and most recently spent seven years as the throws coach at Harvard.
While with the Crimson in her 2022-2023 campaign, Wilson's athletes won all four Indoor Ivy League Heps throws events and five Outdoor Ivy League throws titles. During her tenure, eight program throws records were set, including two Ivy League records, which helped Harvard capture both the men's and women's Ivy League Outdoor Heps titles in 2023. Under Wilson's 2023 outdoor campaign, Kenneth Ikeji and Stephanie Ratcliffe both won NCAA National Championships in the hammer throw with collegiate lead marks, making Wilson the first female coach to have athletes win both the men's and women's NCAA national title in the same season. Three other athletes qualified for Outdoor Nationals, with a sixth place women's discus and a men's & women's shot-putter for a total of three First Team All-Americans. She also coached a U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier, one world athletics qualifier in the hammer, and an Australian national record holder for women's hammer.
This summer Wilson was selected to represent Team USA at the U20 Pan Am Games in Puerto Rico as the female throws coach.
During her first stint on College Hill, Wilson spent four seasons as the Bears' throws coach from 2012-2016 during which her athletes set two school records and had multiple athletes qualify for the NCAA Regionals.
Wilson also previously served five seasons as an assistant coach for throws at UMass Amherst and Keene State.
As a student-athlete thrower, Wilson competed at Virginia Tech before transferring to Boston University, where she competed for three years, while earning a bachelor's degree in social work. She also trained at Olympic Training Camps in Colorado, California, and Lake Placid, New York.
