PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown Women's Swimming and Diving Mary Ann Lippitt Coaching Chair Kate Kovenock and Ollie '50 & Kay Patrell Men's Swimming and Diving Coaching Chair Kevin Norman has announced the hiring of Beck Benson as the program's new Diving Coach.
Benson joins the program after serving at the Head Diving Coach and Assistant Aquatics Director at the University of Chicago since 2018. While at Chicago, Benson was named the Women's DIII National Diving Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2022. Benson also coached 19 NCAA Championship qualifiers and coached a Regional Qualifying Champion on both the 1m & 3m in 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
"We are thrilled to bring Beck Benson on to lead this new era in Brown Diving. Beck comes to us with a wealth of experience and accolades, including being named the DIII NCAA Diving Coach of the Year twice in the last five years," said Kovenock. "But what drew us most to Beck was her ability to connect with student-athletes, coaches, and administrators alike. At every stage in the process, I was so impressed with Beck's ability to ask great questions, truly take in the answers, and build on ideas and concepts related to the life of student-athletes at Brown and the direction of Brown Women's Swimming and Diving. All of us here with BWSD are excited to partner up with Beck to continue moving BWSD forward at the Ivy, NCAA, and National levels."
"We could not be more excited to welcome Beck to our program. She has coached at some of the best athletic and academic schools in the country and has seen success at all levels," said Norman. "Beck is a huge addition to Brown Swimming & Diving and will play an instrumental role in the success of our programs and the development of our divers. We are very luck to have her!"
Prior to the University of Chicago, Benson was the Head Diving Coach at James Madison from 2007-2016. While at JMU, Benson coached 23 Zone NCAA qualifiers and the first two NCAA National Championship qualifier in JMU history.
Benson started her coaching career at NC State after graduating from the University of Alabama where she was a diver on the Alabama swimming and diving team.
