Women's Fencing Wraps Up Eric Sollee Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown women's fencing finished MIT's Eric Sollee Invitational with a 5-1 record. The Bears claimed victories over NYU (23-4), NJIT (19-8), Yeshiva (26-1), Stevens Tech (26-1), and Haverford (26-1). Duke took a 19-8 win over Brown in the Bears' lone loss of the day.
In total, Brown outscored its opponents 128-34 en route to the five victories.
"I'm very proud of our fencers today, at what is one of our more difficult tournaments of the season," said head coach Alex Ripa. "Our team was in full command throughout the day. with the one exception being a very strong Duke team. It's our best Eric Sollee tournament to date!"
Brown opened the day with a convincing win over NYU with five Bears finishing with perfect 3-0 records in the opening round.
The Duke Blue Devils handed Brown its loss in round two, winning all three weapons. In the epee, Audrey Taylor finished with a 2-1 mark against the Blue Devils and a 9-3 mark in the tournament.
The Bears bounced back with a 19-8 win over NJIT. In the sabre, Casey Chan and Alexandra Tzou both finished 3-0 in the round and 16-2 in the tournament.
Brown closed the day with three straight 26-1 victories over Yeshiva, Stevens Tech, and Haverford. The Bears did not surrender a point in the foil.
Anika Breker posted a 13-2 mark in the foil and Arianna Baffa posted the same record in the epee. Grace Li finished 11-4 in the foil.
