
Brown falls at hot-shooting Columbia on Saturday

NEW YORK – Brown women's basketball fell 94-74 at Columbia on Saturday (Jan. 21). The Bears have now dropped their last three Ivy League contests.
Brown (8-10, 1-5 Ivy) was led by Kyla Jones with 22 points and Isabella Mauricio with 15. Grace Arnolie was third on the team with eight points. Jones led the Bears with five assists
Ada Anamekwe pulled down a career-high nine rebounds and finished the game with four points and three assists.
Brown shot 46 percent from the field, its highest shooting percentage in Ivy League play this year, and went 11-for-17 from the free throw line but the Bears could not stop the best offense in the Ivy. Columbia (16-3, 5-1 Ivy) finished the game shooting 46 percent from the floor and over 40 percent from three (9-for-22). The Lions also went 23-for-29 from the free throw line.
The Bears outscored the Lions 40-36 in the paint, but Brown could not keep Columbia off the offensive glass. Brown was outrebounded 49-26 in the game and 21-9 on the offensive end. Columbia finished with a 26-7 advantage in second chance points.
Despite the turnover battle being tied, Brown struggled to take advantage of 19 turnovers, picking up just nine points, while Columbia turned the Bears' 19 turnovers into 26 points.
Jones and Mauricio kept the Bears close for the first half of the first quarter, but Columbia took an 11-point lead after the first that they would not relinquish. Jones scored 14 of her 22 points in the first half, while Mauricio had nine points in the first 20 minutes.
An 8-0 run in the third quarter made a 12-point game a 20-point game and the Lions remained in control the rest of the way.
Columbia had five players in double-figures, led by Abbey Hsu with 26 points on 7-for-11 shooting from three and Kaitlyn Davis with 17 points.
