TOKYO and PRINCETON, N.J. – Five members of the Brown University football team have been selected to participate in the 2023 Japan-U.S. Dream Bowl in Tokyo next week, the Ivy League announced on Wednesday. The Dream Bowl will be a game played between the Japan All-Star Team and an Ivy League team made up of recent graduates from the league's eight institutions.
Running back Allen Smith '23, offensive lineman Hunter Folsom '23, defensive lineman Camden Gagnon '23, offensive lineman Chad Broome-Webster '22 and defensive back Charlie Dallape '22 will be Brown's representatives on the Ivy League's 52-man squad.
Smith, Folsom and Gagnon all finished up their Brown careers this past fall, while Broome-Webster and Dallape graduated following the 2021 season.
The game will take place on Saturday, January 21 at 11 p.m. EST (Sunday, January 22 at 1 p.m. JST) at the National Stadium, which was recently built for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. The game will be televised live in Japan, with additional re-broadcast details in the U.S. still being finalized. The event is made possible by an association between the Japanese National Football Association and the Ivy League. The Ivy League squad will be led by Columbia coach Al Bagnoli and the Lions' coaching staff.
The Ivy League's delegation will arrive in Japan on Sunday, January 15 to prepare for the game and participate in educational and cultural events throughout the week, including interactions with Ivy League alumni, Japanese students and a visit to the U.S. Embassy.
This will not be the first time Ivy League football has taken part in an international game, as the Ivy Epson Bowl existed from 1989-1996, which also matched an Ivy League all-star team against a Japanese all-star squad.
