CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – The ECAC released its preseason women's hockey poll on Wednesday.
Brown was tabbed ninth in the preseason ledger, with two-time defending tournament champion Colgate taking the top spot after earning six first place votes. The poll was voted upon by the conference's 12 head coaches.
Brown finished with 33 points in the poll, ahead of RPI, Dartmouth and Union. Yale finished second in the poll while grabbing three first place votes, followed by Princeton, Quinnipiac and Clarkson to round out the top five. The top eight teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the ECAC Tournament.
In head coach Melanie Ruzzi's first season at the helm in 2021-22, Brown finished the 2021-22 season with its best record since the 2016-17 season, and won its most games in ECAC play since the 2008-09 season, leading to its highest conference finish (ninth) in a decade. For her efforts in leading the Bears' turnaround, Ruzzi was named one of three finalists for ECAC Coach of the Year.
Brown opens up the 2022-23 season on Friday, Oct. 21 at Meehan Auditorium against Stonehill. The Bears will open up ECAC play one week later on October 28 at Dartmouth.
