
Field Hockey Hosts St. Francis Friday; Miami (Ohio) Sunday to Open 2022 Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears welcome St. Francis (0-2, 0-0 NEC) on Friday, Sept. 2 and #24 Miami of Ohio (2-0, 0-0 MAC) on Sunday, Sept. 4 to Goldberger Family Field to kick off the 2022 campaign under first-year head coach Britt Broady.
Friday's season-opener is set to begin at 2 p.m. with Sunday's contest beginning at 11 a.m. with both matches available to stream on ESPN+. Fans are welcome at Goldberger Family Field free of charge.
The opening weekend mark the first two of 11 home games for the Bears in 2022, the most since the 2003 season.

SCOUTING THE BEARS:
- Broady along with assistant coaches Maxine Fluharty and Sydney Supica all make their respective debuts on the sideline this weekend.
- The Bears return the majority of the starting lineup from the 2021 campaign with a total of 15 returners who played in at least 10 games a season ago. Senior Lindsey Ross and sophomore Julia Hitti serving as captains.
- The goalkeeping group remains the same from the 2021 season with Jodie Brine, Ella Edmonds, and Calista Manuzza back between the pipes. All three goalkeepers saw playing time.
- St. Francis enters Friday after dropping a 2-1 contest against Ball State and a 4-0 loss to Miami (Ohio) to open the season.
- St. Francis held the advantage in shots against Ball State with Eva Valentini finding the net for the first goal of the season.
- Amber Bryan has started both games in goal for SFU and holds a .643 save percentage and .333 save percentage. Chloe South holds a .875 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average in 30 minutes of relief work.
- Friday marks the second straight meeting between Brown and St. Francis in the season-opener and also the second meeting in series history.
- Brown took a 2-0 win a year ago on Goldberger Family Field. Cameron Kinsella scored with a Ross assist to seal the win late in the third quarter.
- The RedHawks enter the weekend after taking a 3-1 win over Cal and a 4-0 win over SFU in Oxford last weekend. 24th-ranked Miami takes on seventh-ranked Harvard in Cambridge tomorrow night.
- Miami finished with a 12-11 record in the 2021 season and enter as the defending champions of the MAC. The RedHawks beat Maine in overtime before falling to Michigan in the NCAA Tournament.
- Paula Peña Martinez leads the RedHawks with three goals with Claudia Negrete Garcia and Carlie Servis both adding two.
- Isabella Perese has recorded nine saves combined in the two wins and holds a .900 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average.
- Sunday marks the second meeting in series history with the last coming in the 2010 season-opener, a neutral site game at the University of Iowa.
- Miami took a 1-0 win in the 2010 contest. Lauren Kessler '12 recorded seven saves for the Bears.
