PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University's Division of Athletics and Recreation has announced the squash program's move to the Gorgi Family Squash and Education Center. A world-class facility, the Gorgi Center officially opened its doors to Providence in December 2017. It houses 11 squash courts, one hardball doubles court, two classrooms, offices, locker rooms, and a squash pro shop. One of the largest community-based squash facilities in the United States, it is also home to Moses Brown School and Squashbusters.
Brown's squash program, led by head coach Arthur Gaskin, will have dedicated locker room space and access to the state-of-the-art facility for practices and competitions.
"We are excited to have a world-class facility to practice and compete in," said Gaskin. "We will have more courts, and a doubles court, which is great for us and the 2022 US Open Mixed Doubles National Champions Blake Roshkoff & Rachel Mashek. Brown is excited to continue to invest into the community with SquashBuster students, an urban youth enrichment program. This is great for Brown Squash and the Providence squash community."
"We are thrilled to partner with Moses Brown to make the Gorgi Family Squash and Education Center the new home of Brown Squash," said M. Grace Calhoun '92, Ph.D., Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff '78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation. "This world-class facility will enhance our student-athletes' experience, providing a wonderful venue to maximize practices while ensuring our teams continue to compete at a high level."
Gaskin was named the head coach of the men's squash program in October 2021 after serving as an assistant coach from 2017-19. An eight-time Irish National Champion and a four-time winner on the PSA-World Tour, Gaskin competed on the PSA world tour for 14 years and represented Ireland at multiple European and World Championships, amassing 106 caps for his native Ireland.
A renowned coach with over 15 years of experience, Gaskin has worked with all levels of squash players from beginner to the elite. Gaskin has a love for the sport that is complemented by a passion for individual improvement and helping students reach their potential. He has coached some of the top juniors in the world, multiple national champions, a U.S. Open Champion, and coaches the current World #26 ranking.
Gaskin is the head pro at PVD Squash and Moses Brown's Squash Director since the opening of the Gorgi Center.
Brown will maintain two courts on its campus at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
