PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Five Bears picked up IRCA All-America honors following standout spring seasons that led the team to a fourth-place finish at the 119th IRA Championship.
Gus Rodriguez and Will Legenzowski were named First Team All-America with Jack DiGiovanni, Charlie Fargo, and Gabriel Mahler earning Second Team All-America accolades. By class, Brown had one senior, one junior, and three sophomores earning All-America honors.
The five honorees previously earned Second Team All-Ivy honors for their finish at the 75th Eastern Sprints. Additionally, Head Coach Paul Cooke '89 picked up EARC and Ivy League Coach of the Year recognition for the stellar season.
Rodriguez, the lone senior honoree for the Bears, stroked the Varsity 8 crew throughout the season and led the crew to a second-place finish at the Eastern Sprints and a third-place finish at the IRA Championship. Earlier this season, the Rye, New York native was named the U.S. Rowing U23 Co-Athlete of the Year alongside Navy's Griffin Dunne.
The lone junior, Legenzowski, spent the entire season in the seven-seat in the top boat to pick up First Team honors. The Vista, New York native adds to his trophy case with All-Ivy and All-America recognition in 2022.
DiGiovanni coxed the Varsity 8 crew for the majority of the 2022 season and through the Eastern Sprints and IRA Championship. The sophomore coxswain hails from Pittsford, New York and was named an IRCA Scholar-Athlete yesterday before grabbing Second Team honors today.
Fargo, a native of Winnetka, Illinois, returned to collegiate competition this season and rowed in the six-seat of the top boat at the IRA Championship and Eastern Sprints. The sophomore spent the majority of the spring campaign in the five-seat of the top boat. Fargo was also named an IRCA Scholar-Athlete yesterday.
Mahler rounds out the Second Team All-America selections just one season after picking up First Team honors as a freshman. The Prague, Czech Republic native rowed in the four-seat of the top boat in the two championship races after spending most of the season in the three-seat. Mahler was also named an IRCA Scholar-Athlete yesterday.
