PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kayla Duran, Zoe Maxwell, and Sheyenne Allen have been named captains of Brown women's soccer for the 2022 fall season, as voted on by the team and announced by head coach Kia McNeill.
"I am ecstatic to have Kayla, Zoe, and Sheyenne, as our tri-captains this fall," head coach Kia McNeill said. "They are all incredible players, tremendous leaders, and great young women who represent our team well on and off the field. All three have been integral to our success over the years and know the work it takes to build a strong culture, and ultimately a championship program. I view captains as an extension of the coaching staff, and look forward to working closely with them this coming season."
Duran's first season at Brown saw her anchor the team's back line while also scoring one goal and assisting on four others. The Boston College transfer didn't take long to establish herself as one of the Ivy League's, and the country's, top players as the list of awards won this season include Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Ivy, First Team All-East Region, and CoSida Academic All-America.
Maxwell has been a huge part of this Bears team over the last three seasons and was featured prominently in both iterations of Brown's back-to-back Ivy League Titles in 2019 and 2021. This season, Maxwell scored twice and was tied for the team lead with six assists. In her career in Providence, she has played in 51 games, starting 46.
Allen rounds out the trio as another big part of the last two Ivy Championship teams. This season, she posted two assists, including on the game-winning goal in the regular season finale at Yale, which gave the Bears their first 7-0 Ivy League season in program history.
Brown will look to defend its Ivy crown next season and will try to become the first team to claim three Ivy Titles in a row since Princeton did so from 2000-02. Harvard was the last Ivy team to win three outright titles when the Crimson accomplished the feat back in 1995-97.
The last time the Bears won at least three Ivy Titles in a row was during their historic run from 1982-90 that saw Brown claim nine straight league championships.
