Women Earn Team Title, Schroeter Breaks School Record at Brown Springtime Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's track and field team took home the team title, while the men finished second in the Bears' final meet before the postseason on Sunday at the Brown Springtime Invitational at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium.
The women took home gold medals in eight individual events, while the men won six events, including senior Kegan Schroeter who broke the school's hammer throw record.
Schroeter took home first place in the hammer throw, setting a new school record at 68.79 meters (225'8), surpassing the previous benchmark of 221'7 which had been held by Owen Russell since 2018. The mark currently sits No. 1 in the Ivy League this season and No. 9 on the NCAA East Region Qualifying List.
As a team, the women's totaled 185 points, topping Boston College (104) in the field of five teams. With a partial squad, the Brown men (96 points) took runner-up behind URI (225), while edging out Providence (90).
MEN
Obi Ifediora (11.13) took home third place to lead Brown in the 100m dash, with Abayomi Lowe and Andrew Li also scoring points for the Bears in fifth and sixth places, respectively.
Brown earned points from two runners in the 800 meters with senior Aaron Siff-Scherr (1:51.11) finishing third with a new personal record time, and junior Jesse Edelstein (1:55.65) taking eighth.
Senior Griffin McCauley set a new personal record with his runner-up performance of 3:50.18 in the 1500 meters, while junior Nate Price took home fourth place in 3:57.18.
Geordie Young set a new personal-best in the 3,000m steeplechase with his victory in 9:55.34, and was also a member of the gold medal-winning 4x400m relay team with Justin Hickey, Sif-Scherr and McCauley, which finished in 3:30.18.
Brown added three gold medals in the field events, with Jono Pelusi taking home the gold in the pole vault by clearing 4.75m (15'7), freshman Derek Irby setting a new PR with his first collegiate win in the long jump, and Schroeter's school record in the hammer.
Michael Neary took home the bronze in the shot put finals at 15.34 meters (50'4), while Numan Maloney (6.18m/20' 3.5) scored in the long jump finals in fifth place and Patrick McManus (40.39m/132'6) scored points in the javelin.
WOMEN
Cecilia Marrinan shined in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, breaking the tape to win the 100m in PR time of 12.48, and finishing runner-up in the 200m (25.16). Senior Arielle Desir took home the gold in the 200m (24.93) to help Brown sweep the top two spots.
Brown had three scorers in the 800m with by Isolde McManus (2:17.17), Danna Ofek (2:20.23) and Felicity Hade (2:20.62) all setting new personal records.
Isa Stronski captured second place overall in the 1500 meters, with Lily Harding (4:45.80) and Katie Orchard (4:49.60) also scoring team points and setting a new collegiate PRs.
In the 3,000m, Emily Moini (10:39.38) and Grace Dorantes (PR-10:43.65) landed on the podium in second and third, respectively.
Amy Willig took home the gold with a collegiate PR of 1:04.85 in the 400m hurdles.
Also on the track, the 4x400m relay team of Ofek, Willig, McManus and Hailey Freedman all took home third place with a final time of 4:15.16.
Over in the jumps, Delaney Seligmann earned first place at 1.60m (5'3) in the high jump, with Grace Desmond 1.50m (4'11) scoring in fourth place, both new personal-bests.
Four Bears scored in the long jump, led by Zoe Tsoukas (5.45m/17'10.75) and Brooke Ury (5.31m/17'5.25) taking first and second places, followed by Delaney Seligmann (17'3.25) in fourth and Grace Desmond (5.04m/16'6.5) in sixth.
Brown scored plenty of points in the throws, highlighted by Sophia Gallucci's victory in the hammer throw of 54.93m (180'2), which ranks No. 4 all-time in program history. Kendra Ezeama took first in the shot put 913.74/45'1), and Lily Dumas earned the gold in the javelin.
Four student-athletes finished runner-up in the throws including Nicolette Ducharme in the shot put, Gianna Aiello in the discus, Chidinma Agbasi in the hammer and Kelly Rothenberg in the javelin.
Brown will now turn its attention to next week's Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, which will be held at the Dewitt-Cuyler Athletic Complex in New Haven, Conn. next Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8. Information on tickets is available here.
