CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The seventh-ranked Brown Bears swept all three races on Sunday morning against the Radcliffe-Harvard Crimson on the Charles River, taking wins in the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, and Varsity 4 races.
Sunday's chilly race marked Radcliffe's first regatta on the Charles since 2019.
"Our crews raced hard today in what is one of our best and longest running rivalries and we thank Radcliffe for their efforts in changing the race from Saturday to Sunday in order to provide for better weather conditions," said head coach John Murphy.
Brown's Varsity 8 boat jumped to a quick lead over Radcliffe's Varsity 8 boat and never looked back, cruising past the finish line in 6:19.4 for a 23-second victory over Radcliffe (6:42.8).
With the Varsity 8 win, the Bears hold a 25-8 record against Radcliffe in the series and have won the last 13 meetings in the series.
In the morning's second race, two Brown eight boats and three Radcliffe eights squared off. Brown's 2V8 went wire-to-wire for the victory with a time of 6:23.6, stretching its lead over the pack throughout the race and beating the second-place Brown 3V8 boat (6:34.3). Radcliffe's top boat came in at 6:38.1 for third.
In the Varsity 4 race to finish the competition, Brown's A boat separated itself from the field and held a multiple boat-length lead over Radcliffe's A boat late in the race. The Crimson tightened the race in the final stages, but Brown's A boat finished in 7:14.9 for a seven-second victory over the Crimson (7:21.9). Brown's 4B boat took third with a time of 7:28.9.
After a weekend off, Brown heads to Sarasota, Florida for the two-day Big 10 Invitational on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16.
