Women's Crew Wraps Up Day One of Big 10 Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Brown Bears posted a pair of first-place finishes and five second-place finishes in two sessions at day one of the 2022 Big 10 Invitational on Friday at Nathan Benderson Park.
Brown's 1V8 and 2V8 took wins over sixth-ranked Michigan in the afternoon session to highlight the day for the Bears.
Brown finished second in three-of-four races in the morning session, finishing behind second-ranked Stanford each time in heats with Brown, Stanford, eighth-ranked Ohio State, and Wisconsin.
Brown's B4 crew opened the morning session with a time of 7:20.515, finishing less than one second behind the Cardinal crew (7:19.455). Stanford and Brown separated from Wisconsin and eighth-ranked Ohio State as the Badgers (7:32.735) finished third and the Buckeyes finished fourth (7:35.209).
Another close race with Stanford unfolded in the Varsity 8 race as the Cardinal clocked a time of 6:26.575 to edge out the Bears (6:28.429). the 1V8 was a two-boat race as Ohio State came in a full nine seconds behind Brown.
The 2V8 race immediately followed the 1V8 and Brown again finished behind the Cardinal with a time of 6:35.140. Brown finished comfortably ahead of the Buckeye crew (6:41.223).
The A4 race closed out the morning session with the Bears posting a time of 7:27.057 to take third, finishing behind Stanford (7:21.077) and Ohio State (7:26.084).
The afternoon session began following a two-hour break as Brown raced against sixth-ranked Michigan, 20th-ranked Indiana, and Notre Dame. Brown finished first in the 1V8 and 2V8 races and second in the A4 and B4 races.
Michigan captured the B4 race to begin the afternoon session with a time of 7:19.141, finishing ahead of the Brown crew (7:24.565) and third-place Notre Dame (7:46.655).
Brown's Varsity 8 crew edged out the Michigan crew by eight-tenths of a second after clocking a time of 6:25.351. Similar to the morning race, the Bears and Wolverines separated from the Hoosiers and Fighting Irish which finished third and fourth with respective times of 6:41.238 and 6:46.311.
In the 2V8 race, Brown paced the group with a time of 6:36.746 for a 9.5-second victory over Michigan (6:46.249) and nearly a 20-second win over Indiana (6:54.309).
The Bears closed out the day of racing with a second-place finish in the A4, posting with a time of 7:24.251 to finish 5.1 seconds behind the Wolverines and 17 seconds ahead of the Hoosiers.
The Bears compete in the second and final day of the Big 10 Invitational tomorrow morning at Nathan Benderson Park. Brown's 2V4 begins the day at 9:10 a.m. The Bears will race against #17 Rutgers, #19 Washington State, and Wisconsin.
