Women's tennis finishes season with Senior Day win over Dartmouth
4/24/2022 8:54:00 PM | Women's Tennis
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team won their second straight match, a 4-2 victory over Dartmouth, to close out the season.
Ali Benedetto, Sophia Reddy, Addison Ahlstrom, and Olivia Mariotti all won their final singles match of the season, while Britany Lau and Ahlstrom did the same in doubles.
"Today's win was a positive end to our season," head coach Lucie Schmidhauser said. "It is always nice to get the win on Senior Day and I was happy for Julia, Ryan and Sophie to walk away victorious.
"It was great to see how the team responded to a disappointing doubles point loss. In the past, we would have dwelled on this fact, but today every player started singles with high energy and motivated to leave everything on the court. Ali Benedetto played a very tactically intelligent match to even the score and Sophie used her veteran experience and skill to give us another point. Addie Ahlstrom outcompeted her opponent at the end of the match which was a testament to her improving competitive maturity. Olivia Mariotti was able to bounce back from the first set loss to play with confidence, completely trusting her adjusted game plan. I was proud of her courage in important moments of the match. She clinched the match for us by fearlessly coming to the net and finishing with an angle volley.
"The past two wins against Harvard and Dartmouth showed our team how important it is to trust the process and be unapologetically willing to put everything on the line. This season has been very challenging for our team as we have had many close matches but not many team victories, so finishing on a positive note is very motivating for our players as they look to the future."
