PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the third time this season, Brown senior Mei Li Costa has been recognized by the GEC with its Performance of the Week honor. This latest accolade comes after a historic school record performance on bars in Sunday's dual meet against Bridgeport.
Costa nailed her routine, receiving scores of 9.95 and a perfect 10.0 from the two judges, for an average final score of 9.975, breaking her own program record that she set earlier this season. The 10.0 she received from one of the judges is also the first perfect 10 for a Brown gymnast in any event in program history. The score currently ranks seventh in the Northeast Region, with five of the gymnasts ahead of her competing for reigning national champion, Michigan.
Brown gymnasts have now won five weekly awards form the GEC this season: Taylor Schulze (Newcomer: 2/23), Julia Bedell (Newcomer: 2/9), and Costa (Performance: 2/9, 3/2, 3/9).
The Bears will return to action this Friday evening with their annual Senior Meet against Bridgeport. The team's senior class of 2022 will be honored with a ceremony immediately following the conclusion of the meet.
