Water polo wins two games, takes down No. 20 Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown women's water polo earned two wins at the Harvard Invitational, beating Mount St. Mary's and No. 20 Harvard. With the two wins, Brown now holds a 4-1 record in conference play.

"We did some really good things that kept us in the game against Harvard," said Felix Mercado, Head Coaching Chair for Water Polo. "I'm glad our senior, Katie Klein came through with a big shot and we held off a very good offensive team."

GAME 1: BROWN 15, MOUNT ST. MARY'S 4
Katie Klein, Claire Pisani and Emily Suong each tallied three goals as the Bears cruised past Mount St. Mary's 15-4. The 15 goals are tied for the second-most goals scored this season by the Bears.

Brown got goals from Pisani, Zoe King and Claire Poissonier before Mount St. Mary's was able to get on the board. Goals from Suong and Dagmara Czajka put the Bears up 5-1 after the first quarter.

The Bears shutout Mount St. Mary's in the second quarter. Pisani scored two goals and King and Suong each added a goal as the Bears jumped ahead 9-1 at the half.

The second half continued with more goals from Brown Klein tallied two goals and Poissonier added another before the run ended at 12-2. Sienna Berry scored to end the quarter with Brown up 13-2.

Klein and Suong each scored in the final quarter as Brown tied its largest margin of victory on the year (11).

Marley Presiado finished the game with eight saves in goal for the Bears.

GAME 2: BROWN 7, NO. 20 HARVARD 6
The Bears started out slow against the Crimson, with Sierra Martin scoring Brown's only goal in the first quarter as Harvard led 3-1.

Brown responded with three goals in the second quarter. Lily Weiser scored two goals for Brown and Czajka added another as Brown tied up the game 4-4 at halftime.

Pisani gave Brown its first lead of the game with a goal a couple minutes into the third but Harvard quickly tied the game. With 1:21 left in the third, Pisani's second goal of the quarter put Brown back up 6-5.

Harvard tied the game with 4:48 left in the fourth. With 43 seconds left on the clock, Klein scored her only goal of the game, giving Brown a 7-6 lead they would not let go of.

Shauna Franke got the win in goal, stopping 11 shots.

Brown will play two more games on Sunday with a contest against No. 14 Indiana at 11:45 a.m. and will finish play against No. 15 Wagner at 3:30 p.m.
