Men's Lacrosse Readies for Ocean State Cup Battle at Providence College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (3-1, 0-0 Ivy League) look for their third straight win and second straight over a Big East opponent as they take on the Providence College Friars (2-2, 0-0 Big East) Saturday afternoon at Chapey Field.
Saturday's Ocean State Cup battle is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will stream on FloSports. A subscription is required to stream the game.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Saturday with a 3-1 overall record and look for their third straight win after beating Vermont and Villanova in the last week.
- Offensively, Devon McLane leads the Bears in goals (15), assists (12), and points (27). Darian Cook is second on the team in all three categories with 10 goals, eight assists, and 18 points.
- As a team, Brown ranks third in the Ivy League and tied for 18th in the NCAA with 14.25 goals per game. Brown's man-up offense ranks second in the conference and 13th in the NCAA with eight man-up goals in 15 attempts (.533).
- Defensively, Brown allows 13.00 goals per game to rank 46th in the NCAA. Connor Theriault has made three starts in goal and holds a 13.00 goals against average and .565 save percentage.
- Brown's man-down defense has been strong to start the season, allowing four goals in 17 attempts (.765) to lead the Ivy League and rank 12th in the NCAA.
- Matthew Gunty has taken nearly every faceoff for Brown this season. He enters Saturday with a 47.4% win-rate at the X (54-for-114). He leads the team with 25 ground balls and is tied for 27th in the NCAA with 6.75 ground balls per game.
- Providence enters Saturday with a 2-2 record in 2022 with wins over Holy Cross and Siena and losses to Bryant and St. Joseph's. The Friars finished 2021 with a 4-9 overall record afer going 5-1 to start the 2020 season.
- Matt Grillo leads the Friars with 12 goals through four games. Evan McGreen is second on the team with 11 goals and leads the Friars with 17 points. Ryan Bell is the third and final Friar with double-digit points, entering Saturday's game with 12 points. Outside the top-three scorers, there are nine other Friars with at least a point this season.
- As a team, Providence is tied for 40th in the NCAA with 11.00 goals per game.
- Defensively, Providence ranks 46th in the NCAA with a 12.75 goals against average.
- Michael Harris has started all four games between the pipes. He holds a 12.39 goals against average and a .565 save percentage. His save percentage ranks 16th in the NCAA.
- Providence has struggled at the X this season, winning just 33% of its faceoffs to rank 68th in the country. Quinn McConnaughey leads the Friars in faceoff wins (19), faceoffs taken (49), and faceoff percentage (.388).
- On special teams, five different players have tallied man-up goals as PC ranks 20th in the NCAA on EMO (5-for-11). Providence's man-down defense ranks 35th in the NCAA, clicking at 61.5% (8-for-13).
- McLane put on a show Tuesday against Villanova, tallying four goals and nine points in the win.
- McLane's nine-point performance is the first for Brown since Dylan Molloy '17 recorded 10 points in a win over Holy Cross on March 21, 2017.
- His five assists are the most by a Bear since Luke McCaleb '21 finished with five helpers in Brown's win over Quinnipiac to open the 2019 season.
- Senior Brian Antonelli shattered previous career-highs with five goals and six points in Brown's win over Villanova.
- Antonelli is third on the team in goals (9) and points (10), trailing Cook and McLane in both categories.
- McLane leads the Ivy League and is tied for sixth in the NCAA in assists per game (3.00).
- McLane leads the conference and is fourth in the NCAA in points per game (6.75).
- McLane leads the conference and is tied for fourth in the NCAA in man-up goals (4).
- McLane is second in the Ivy League and tied for eighth in the NCAA in goals per game (3.75).
- Cook is tied for third in the Ivy League in shot percentage (.500) and assists per game (2.00). He is tied for 20th and tied for 28th, respectively, in the NCAA in both categories.
- Cook ranks fourth in the conference and tied for 26th in the NCAA in points per game (4.50).
