Sailing earns pair of top finishes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown coed and women's sailing teams each took first place at events this weekend. In addition, the coed team had a pair of top-four finishes at two other events.
The women took first place out of eight teams at the Duplin Team Race at Tufts. Brielle Willoughby, Blaire McCarthy, Caroline Bayless, Emi Ruth, Catherine Morrissette, Savannah Young, and Nora Ong combined to go 11-3 and claim the overall victory.
The coed first-place finish came thanks to an 18-2 record at the BU Team Race. Hunter Zonnenberg, Connor Macken, Leyton Borcherding, Isabel Cox, Jacqui Rice, and Menasha Leport represented the Bears.
At the Jan T. Friis Team race, the coed team finished in fourth after a 12-7 showing. The top four spots were incredibly tight, with Yale taking first at 14-5. Olivia Belda, Jack Murphy, Connor Nelson, Emma Montgomery, William George, Madeleine Montagner, Madeleine McGrath, and Julia Reynolds sailed for Brown.
At the Connecticut Velley Dinghy Championship, Brown had a pair of boats take third and sixth respectively.
Competition continues next weekend, with the teams competing at four different events from April 2-3.
