Women's Crew Wraps Up Season-Opener Against Tigers, Buckeyes

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's crew team opened the season Saturday morning at Lake Carnegie in a race against the Princeton Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Tigers retained the Class of 1987 Trophy with a three-second victory over Brown in the first varsity eight race.

"We have always believed that it is good for our team to start the season racing really tough programs and we definitely got that from Ohio State and Princeton," said associate head coach Phoebe Murphy. "All of our crews were challenged, raced hard, and learned some things that will help us in the weeks ahead."

Brown captured a pair of wins at the opener, crossing the line first in the First Varsity 4 and the Second Varsity 4 races. In the former, Brown crossed at 7:10.7 to beat Ohio State (7:11.7) and Princeton (7:19.5).

Brown's second 4 boat crossed the line at 7:20.3 to edge out Princeton B (7:26.2), Ohio State (7:27.7), and Princeton C (7:48.5).

In the 1V8 race, the Tigers crossed the line in 6:21.3 for the victory over the Bears (6:24.3) and the Buckeyes (6:27.6).

Princeton also won the 2V8 race with a time of 6:30.3 to edge out Ohio State (6:32.4) and Brown (6:32.6). The Tigers also captured the 3V8 race with a time of 6:44.9.

The conditions were decent at Lake Carnegie with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s with a slight tail wind maxing out at 10 miles per hour.
