
Costa and Bedell Recognized with GEC Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following their standout performances over the weekend, two Brown gymnasts have been recognized with weekly awards from the Gymnastics East Conference.
Senior Mei Li Costa was honored with the GEC Performance of the Week after her school record-breaking performance on bars, and freshman Julia Bedell was named the GEC's Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Costa broke her own school record on the uneven bars in Saturday's quad meet at West Chester with a score of 9.925, surpassing the previous program benchmark of 9.000, a mark she shared with other gymnasts. Her near flawless routine earned her first place in the event, and helped Brown earn a season-high team score of 192.875. Costa also took home first place in the vault at the meet, tying her season-high with a score of 9.800.
Bedell earns the Newcomer of the Week honor after strong showings on all three of her events, leading the Bears with a third-place finish on floor by posting a career-high score of 9.825. She helped Brown finish 1-2 on vault with a second-place score of 9.75, in addition to posting a 9.675 score on beam and 9.825 on floor.
The Bears will return to action this Saturday night at 7 p.m. with their first dual meet of the season at New Hampshire.
