
Schroeter Captures Ivy Title to Lead Brown on Day 1 of Heps

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior thrower Kegan Schroeter captured his first career Ivy League title in the weight throw on day one of the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on Saturday at The Armoy in New York. Sophomore jumper John McNeil had a podium finish by taking bronze in the long jump, and junior Lily Dumas also captured a bronze medal on the day with a score of 3,520 in the pentathlon.
The Brown men find themselves in fourth place with 18 points after day one of competition, while the women sit tied for sixth place with 14 points. The remaining events will take place on Sunday.
Schroeter captured gold in the weight throw, taking first place with a throw of exactly 20.00 meters to earn First Team All-Ivy honors. It is the third time this season he has topped the 20-meter mark and now gives him three of the top five throws in program history.
McNeil tallied a third place, bronze medal winning performance in the long jump by setting a new personal record at 7.37 meters. Sophomore Sam Hurcomb also PR'ed at 7.19 meters to place fifth overall, one of five Bears to place in the top nine of the event.
Dumas totaled 3,520 points to take third place overall, a score that ranks eighth in program history. She took first place in the high jump (1.67m), second in the hurdles (8.97), and fourth in the 800 meters to highlight the event. Taking fourth was sophomore Chiamaka Odenigbo, who posted 3,353 points, tying for second in the high jump (1.64), and fourth in the long jump (5.22), shot put and hurdles (9.20).
Senior Bretram Rogers (7.99) placed third in the 60m hurdle prelims to qualify him for Sunday morning's finals. Sophomore Daryn Davis also qualified for Sunday's finals in the women's 60m hurdles, hitting a new personal record time of 8.64 seconds to finish eighth. Sydney Scott took second place in the prelims of the women's 60 meters in 7.63 seconds, sending her to Sunday's finals.
Brown grabbed three team points from Lauren Yeboah-Kodie (5.79m) and Jada Joseph (5.72m) in the long jump after placing fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the throws, first-year Sophia Gallucci set a new personal record of 17.79m to finish sixth and score points in the weight throw.
The second and final day of competition will get underway on Sunday morning at 10:50 a.m. with the continuation of the men's heptathlon. Track events will start at 11 a.m. and field events will continue at 11:30 on ESPN+.
