Men's Lacrosse Hosts Vermont Saturday at Stevenson-Pincince Field

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (1-1, 0-0 Ivy League) return to Stevenson-Pincince Field to host the Vermont Catamounts (1-2, 0-0 AE) Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Saturday with a 1-1 overall record, opening the season with a home win over Quinnipiac before falling at 10th-ranked North Carolina in a mid-week clash.
- Junior Devin McLane leads the team with eight goals and is second on the team with 11 points. Senior Darian Cook leads the team with six assists and 12 points. Six other Bears have multiple points this season, including graduate student Ryan Aughavin. The 2022 Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection has four goals this season.
- Brown's man-up offense has shined in the early part of the season with six goals in eight attempts. The Bears rank second in the Ivy League and NCAA, behind only Princeton (4-for-5).
- Between the pipes, Connor Theriault played the second half in Brown's win over Quinnipiac, making 12 saves. He earned the start against North Carolina, finishing with 10 saves. He holds a .512 save percentage in 90 minutes.
- At the X, junior Matthew Gunty has won 46.6% of his faceoffs with 13 ground balls. Gunty shined against the Bobcats, winning 20-of-31 faceoffs.
- Vermont enters Saturday with a 1-2 overall record. The Cats opened the season with a road loss at third-ranked Duke and a home loss to Utah before claiming a road win at Penn State. The Catamounts, like the Bears, are receiving votes in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
- Vermont has been the team to beat in the America East under sixth-year head coach Chris Feifs. After a 5-8 season in 2017, Feifs has led UVM to winning records in each of the last five seasons, including a 12-4 season in 2018. The Catamounts reached the America East title game in 2018 and 2019 before capturing the conference title in 2021, falling to Maryland, the alma mater of Feifs and assistant coach Jake Bernhardt in the NCAA Tournament.
- Graduate student Liam Limoges, one of six Canadians on the UVM roster, leads the team with eight goals. He is tied for the team-lead with nine points alongside senior David Closterman. Senior Thomas McConvey, a 2022 Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection and 2021 USILA All-American, has three goals and four points to start the season. His older brother, Jonathan, has the same stat-line while primarily playing in man-up situations.
- Between the pipes, senior Ryan Cornell has started all three games. He holds a .472 save percentage and 12.00 goals against average.
- At the X, junior Tommy Burke, a 2021 USILA All-American, has taken every faceoff this season. He holds a .650 percentage (52-for-80). He ranks seventh in the NCAA.
- On special teams, UVM is 4-for-11 (.364) in man-up situations. In man-down situations, UVM is 3-for-6 (.500).
- The Catamounts return all seven America East All-Conference selections from a season ago: Nick Alviti, Tommy Burke, David Closterman, Will Jones, JJ Levandowski, Thomas McConvey, and Michael McCormack.
- Saturday marks the eighth meeting between Brown and Vermont in a series dating back to 2003. Brown has won all seven meetings and have out-scored Vermont 83-48 in the seven games.
- Brown took a 14-5 win over Vermont in the last meeting between the two programs in 2012. Nick Piroli '16 registered a career-high four goals in the road win at Virtue Field.
- The Bears gave the 10th-ranked Tar Heels all they could handle Wednesday (Feb. 23), falling 14-11 at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill.
- The game saw seven different ties and had Brown and UNC deadlocked at the end of the first and second quarters.
- Devon McLane recorded his second hat trick in as many games and finished with five points. Darian Cook finished the game with two goals and four points.
- Connor Theriault made 10 saves between the pipes for the Bears. UNC's Collin Krieg finished with 17 saves.
- Brown opened the season against the Bobcats of Quinnipiac, taking a 19-13 win in the opener at Stevenson-Pincince.
- Cook tallied a career-high four assists and eight points. McLane scored a career-high five goals and added an assist. Eleven Bears finished with at least a point and six had multiple points.
- Theriault recorded 12 saves in the second half, including 10 in the third quarter, after taking over for Cameron Fiore (5 saves).
