Women's tennis bested at Maryland
2/20/2022 7:22:00 PM | Women's Tennis
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Brown women's tennis team lost to Maryland 6-1 Sunday afternoon.
"I deliberately chose a very challenging match schedule for the first part of this season for our players to test their abilities against high-level opponents," head coach Lucie Schmidhauser said. "Even though we have not won very many team matches, this approach has allowed our players to assess their strengths and weaknesses in extremely challenging environments and the past two days were no different.
"Today's match against a very tough Maryland team was a step in the right direction. The final score doesn't necessarily reflect how close the match truly was and the differences between winning and losing in each individual match were truly minimal. After yesterday's low energy match vs. Navy, we made a lot of progress in the way we competed and were willing to make our opponents uncomfortable. Addie Ahlstrom had great clarity in the way she wanted to play and compete which reflected in both her singles and doubles (with Britany Lau) wins. Addie has made a lot of progress this year and I look forward to her continued development. Britany Lau has just been so solid at line 1 singles this year as she plays with so much variety in her game and she consistently brings fight and resiliency to each match. Her leadership on and off the court has been invaluable for our young team."
Addison Ahlstrom had a hand in both of the Bears' two victories on the day. She won her match at No. 4 singles and also teamed up with Britany Lau to secure the win at No. 2 doubles.
