
Reznicek wins 100 backstroke, sets pool record

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Jenna Reznicek set a school and pool record in the 100 backstroke on route to a gold in the event to highlight Day Three of the Ivy League Championships on Friday (Feb. 18).
Reznicek set the record in the prelims of the event, swimming a 52.43, breaking the pool record at Harvard by .02 seconds and her own school record by .51 seconds. In the final, Reznicek cruised to a win by almost a second with a time of 52.94.
"We have talked all year about opportunities with this team, specifically about being grateful for them and als being ready for them," said head coach Kate Kovenock. "That state of being clicked into place today. I'm proud of the entire team for capitalizing on their moments. Of course, special nod goes to Jenna and her win, program record, and pool record. Walking into a meet as a top-seeded first year can be a challenge and she handled it with grace and tenacity."
The night began for Brown with Sara Barrett swimming the third-fastest time in program history in the 1000 freestyle. Barrett's time of 9:58.96 was good for sixth in the event. Bella Antoniuk finished in 16th with a time of 10:18.05 and Miku Takabayashi swam a personal best time of 10:19.97.
Brown had three swimmers in the championship final in the 100 butterfly with Nell Chidley picking up a fifth-place finish with a time of 54.00. Reznicek finished in sixth place, clocking a time of 54.08 and Sage Matsushima was eighth with a time of 54.64.
In the 200 freestyle, Anna Podurgiel finished in 11th with a time of 1:49.17. Her time of 1:48.94 in the prelims is the eighth-fastest in Brown history. Audrey Orange finished in 17th with a time of 1:51.80, followed by Maria Iorini (1:52.56) and Sam Scott (1:55.56).
In the 100 breaststroke, Kellie Willhite finished in eighth with a time of 1:03.20 and her time of 1:02.88 in the prelims was the sixth-fastest time in program history. Audrey Lukawski finished in ninth, winning the B Final with a time of 1:02.76, the fifth-fastest time in program history. Ellie Brault finished in 10th (1:03.05).
On the boards, Alexa Brinker made the consolation final and finished in 16th overall with a score of 209.40. Liv Mitchell finished in 22nd in the prelims (220.25) and Julia Feord finished in 24th (217.35).
To close out the night, the team of Reznicek, Lukawski, Chidley and Scott finished in fourth in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:41.72.
The final day of the Ivy League Championships will begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. with prelims and the finals will begin at 6 p.m.
