WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Brown men's basketball team won its fourth straight game Sunday afternoon with a 65-51 victory over Hartford. The 14-point win was the Bears' largest margin of victory on the season.
"We are pleased with the win," head coach Mike Martin '04 said. "There were some very good stretches of play today, especially in the second half when we built our lead to 21. Overall, we can definitely play more consistently at both ends of the court, but, all in all, dealing with a quick turnaround after an emotional win Friday, today is another sign we can be a good team."
For the second straight game, Paxson Wojcik set a new career-high with 19 points on an 8-for-12 shooting day, including a 3-for-6 showing from three. He added six assists and four rebounds to round out the performance. Kalu Anya had 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Kino Lilly Jr. had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
For the second game in a row, the Bears shot over 50% as a team, going 26-for-50 (52%). Their 19 assists were also a season-high.
After a slow start to the game for both sides, Brown built out a 10-point lead after a Wojcik three at the 10:34 mark of the first half. The Bears largest lead in the opening 20 came after a three by Perry Cowan at 8:01 to put Brown up 18-7.
Hartford closed the gap a bit at the end of the first and the game would go into halftime with the Bears up 25-20.
Brown quickly built its lead back up to 10 at the start of the second half after a bucket by Anya and a three by Lilly. From there, the Bears would stretch their lead out to as many as 21. Following a Kimo Ferrari three with 8:30 to go in the game, Brown led 58-37.
Down the stretch, the Hawks would never get back within 12. A free throw by Sam Klores wrapped the scoring for both sides and gave the Bears the 14-point victory.
Brown will look to win its fifth straight this Wednesday, Dec. 7 in Kingston, R.I. when the Bears take on Rhode Island at 7 p.m.
