Baseball Announces 2023 Season Schedule
11/30/2022 2:08:00 PM | Baseball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown Head Baseball Coaching Chair Grant Achilles has announced the Bears' schedule for the upcoming 2023 season. The schedule features 40 games, including 21 Ivy League games, 20 non-league games, and 18 home games to be played at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
Brown will begin its 2023 season with three trips down south to three different states, starting with a season-opening four-game series at Georgia State on February 24-26. The following weekend, the Bears head to the Big Easy for a three-game series at the University of New Orleans on March 3-5. Brown will then head to Cary, N.C. for a four-game series against Penn State at the USA Baseball National Training Complex from March 10-12.
"The internal competition has been fierce all fall, and we are 86 days away from being able to trust that work against a talented Georgia State team," Achilles said. "New Orleans is a challenging place to play, and the balance of our first four weekends should be a great primer for our conference slate."
The Bears return to Providence for their home opener on March 18 with a doubleheader against-state foe Bryant.
The Ivy League schedule opens up the following weekend with a three-game set at defending league champion Columbia on March 25-26.
"Starting off Ivy play with an away series against the defending champions will be a great test to start the year," Achilles said. "Each pitch during the seven weekends will be critical for who makes the inaugural Ivy Tournament. I couldn't be more excited to see what our team is capable of this spring."
The Bears will spend most of the month of April at home, with 14 of their 18 games being played at Murray Stadium, including Ivy series against Yale, Penn, Harvard and Dartmouth, as well as an in-state matchup against URI. On April 26, Brown will play a mid-week road game at reigning Super Regional foe UConn, who came one win away from Omaha in 2021.
The regular season will conclude with four games in May with a trip to Holy Cross on May 2, followed by a three-game series at Princeton May 6-7.
New this season, the Ivy League will hold a four-team double-elimination tournament at the conclusion of the season to determine the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The entire tournament will run from May 19-22 and be hosted by the league's No. 1 seed from the regular season.
