NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Brown men's basketball team defeated Central Connecticut 59-51 Tuesday evening to claim its second straight victory and third in the last four games.
"I'm pleased with our win and defensive performance for 40 minutes," head coach Mike Martin '04 said. "Our offense at times was very good, but I think continuing to play that way for 40 minutes will be key as we move forward. We had lots of contributions tonight throughout the lineup."
Kino Lilly Jr. had a game-high 16 points to lead the Bears. Paxson Wojcik had 11 and five rebounds, while Perry Cowan hit three threes in the first half to finish with nine. Malachi Ndur had a team-high three assists to go with his five points.
The Blue Devils opened the scoring with the game's first basket, but it would be their only lead of the night. Nana Owusu-Anane immediately tied the game and Wojcik put Brown ahead for good on the Bears' next possession.
The Bears would stretch their lead to 11 three times during the first half; on a three by Ndur with seven minutes remaining, on a bucket by Aaron Cooley one minute later, and on a three by Lilly with less than a minute left in the half.
Brown eventually took a nine-point lead into the break.
The Bears pushed their lead to 17 off a layup by Ndur with 13 minutes to go in the game, their largest lead of the night.
CCSU would eventually cut Brown's lead to six, but four straight free throws down the stretch for the Bears, two by Cooley and two by Lilly, sealed the victory.
Brown now turns its attention to a road matchup with Bryant this Friday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.
