INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Penn State outshot Brown by a 26-17 margin.
- PSU went 1-for-3 on the power play while Brown was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown started fast and tallied the game's first eight shots on goal over the first 13-plus minutes of the game, but PSU scored the game's first goal, stuffing in a loose puck on a scramble in the crease on a power play to take the 1-0 lead at 14:44.
- Penn State doubled the edge to 2-0 at 2:28 of the second, keeping the puck in the offensive zone, and Alyssa Machado one-timed a puck that leaked into the slot.
- The Nittany Lions added another goal late in the period at 18:32 on a wrist shot from the top of the right wing circle that got just under the crossbar to hold a three-goal lead after two periods.
- Brown killed off a 5-on-3 early in the third period and had a power play chance midway through the period, but was unable to capitalize.
- "We've been working as a team on increasing possession time and creating scoring chances, and they put that into action immediately. We did control much of that early part of the game. I'm not sure we generated the kinds of chances that we wanted to generate. We tried to make too many plays at times instead of just taking shots and using screens."
- "We've got to play efficiently so we're not getting stuck out there for long shifts defensively. We had chances early today and the goals Penn State scored were good goals, but I certainly felt like it was an even game. Going into tomorrow I don't think we're going to change too much. We're going to come ready to go and keep building on our identity."
