INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Brown outshot Stonehill by a 32-19 margin.
- Iginla scored her second goal in as many games as part of a two-point night with a goal and an assist.
- Freshman India McDadi scored her first career goal late in the third period on the power play.
- Freshman Mégane Pilon made 18 saves in her collegiate debut in goal.
- Maya Mangiafico scored her first goal of the season to get Brown on the board early in the second period.
- Junior Jess Ciarrocchi and sophomore Cameron Sikich also added assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, Brown jumped in front with two quick goals early in the second. Mangiafico netted her first of the season just 35 seconds into the period after one-timing a drop pass from Ciarrocchi in the slot for the 1-0 lead.
- Just 34 seconds later, Brown struck again as Iginla used a deke move to create space in the slot and sent one past the goaltender into the net for her second goal in as many games to give Brown a two-goal edge.
- The Skyhawks chipped into the lead with a goal by Lucie Turcotte at the 14:33 mark of the second period.
- Brown put the game away with their first power play goal of the season with 1:46 remaining in regulation when Iginla fed a pass across to McDadi, who let go a wrist shot that found the back of the net for her first career goal. Sickch also assisted on the tally.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: MELANIE RUZZI
- "I think the key for tonight is we challenged the defense to be more effective on breakouts and we certainly got that. Our efficiency on the breakout improved and I thought that was a huge reason for our success today."
- "I think our freshmen are a big part of our team. We struggled to score at times last season and now we have some more players who can put the puck in the net and it's important for us to get after it."
- "Mégane was challenged in first period and made some big saves. I think it gives her some confidence moving forward. Playing a tough defensive game to close it out was really important as well."
