WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Brown Bears (3-2-1) held the Army West Point Black Knights to just 17 points Friday night at Anderson Rugby Complex, falling 17-0 in NIRA conference play.
"The team demonstrated incredible resilience and played some gutsy defense, said Kathleen Flores Head Women's Rugby Coach Rosalind Chou. "We spent most of the match in our own end and never backed down. The team continues to improve every week, and we look forward to Senior Day and celebrating the life and legacy of Kathy Flores at home."
Army took the early lead with an Alissa Eisenhart drop kick to make it 3-0. After a long scoreless stretch, Army stretched the lead with a try from Cecelia Ollis with five minutes remaining in the opening half.
A late Brown push was stopped and the Black Knights entered the halftime break with a 10-0 lead following a hard-fought 40 minutes of play.
The Bears and Black Knights battled in scoreless play through the first 30 minutes of the second half as neither team could create any dangerous offensive opportunities.
The Black Knights broke through with nine minutes remaining in the second half following a long defensive stand from the Bears. Eisenhart hit the conversion to push the score to 17-0.
