INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Grad student Megan Forrest tied the game for Brown midway through the first period with her second goal of the season, coming on a backhander in front.
- Senior Shay Maloney and sophomore Anna Gallagher earned assists.
- Sophomore Kaley Doyle made 30 saves in goal for the Bears, as Colgate outshot Brown 32-20 for the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colgate took an early 1-0 lead on a goal just 3:57 into the game on a shot from just inside the blue line by Maggie MacEachern.
- Brown battled back, upping the pressure and tying the score at 9:15 when Gallagher sent a puck to the top of the crease, where Forrest backhanded it through the goaltender to knot the score at one.
- Madie Stockfish had a chance to give the Bears the lead with a breakaway on a shorthanded bid, but was stopped by a big right pad save at 13:08 of the second period.
- Moments later, Colgate regained the lead on the power play at the 13:19 mark, crashing the net and shoving the puck across the line.
- With less than four minutes to play in the second, Brown drew a double minor, embarking on a four-minute power play that extended into the third period. The Bears put seven shots on target with the man advantage, but were unable to find the back of the net.
- Brown went on the power play once more at 7:53 of the third period, then pulled the goaltender for the extra attacker with two minutes remaining, but was unable to net the equalizer.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: MELANIE RUZZI
- "They've bought in. They are committed to what we are trying to do and they were committed for the full 60 minutes. I've never questioned their work ethic or ability to play hard and physical hockey. Today I felt from the very beginning we believed."
- "The defense being stronger today allowed us to get after it a little bit more on offense. We broke out the puck a little bit better and played with more speed. We didn't get as many shots as I would've liked, but when you're playing one of the top teams in the country, it's going to be tough."
- "When you get the power play going, that changes things. We had some opportunities today and just weren't able to bury any. This is the toughest league in the country. It's late January and the ECAC has five teams ranked in the top 10 in the country. Every game is a difficult game and anybody can beat anybody. We're at a point with the maturity in our team where we know that, and we'll be ready to turn things around and getting ready for Union."
