STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A number of strong performances helped both the Brown men's and women's track and field teams each earn third place finishes at the Penn 10-Team Select on Saturday evening.
Leading the men's team was senior Kegan Schroeter won the weight throw with the second-best throw in program history. The women earned a clean sweep of the podium in the triple jump, with sophomore Chiamaka Odenigbo winning the triple jump and setting a new PR in the finals of the 60m hurdles. Arielle Desir took second place in the 60 meters and placed fifth in the 200 meters.
Competing with partial squads, Brown's men earned eight podium finishes while the women had five. Each team had two athletes take home gold medals in individual events.
"We, as a coaching staff and the alumni and parents in attendance were proud with how the team competed today," head coach Ken Hunt said. "The team overall placement was also pretty encouraging since we didn't compete all of our speed and power athletes nor any of our mid distance or distance groups. So I will say this again there will be highs and lows and everything in between. It is nothing new but we are showing a competitiveness that should lead to promising team outcomes."
