
PREVIEW: Brown Travels to Face In-State Foe Bryant on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown football team will stay in the Ocean State this Saturday for a non-league matchup at Bryant. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield. The Bears are in search of their first victory of 2021, falling to Rhode Island in the season-opener and Harvard in last week's Ivy League opener. The Bears hold a three-game winning streak against the Bulldogs, who are coming off a 37-17 non-conference win at Marist last weekend.
OPENING KICKOFF
• Brown and Bryant have one common opponent thus far in 2021, each falling to Rhode Island.
• James Perry is 1-0 coaching against his former team, most recently a 35-30 win at Bryant in 2019.
• Brown is 4-1 all-time against Bryant and has scored at least 35 points in three of the five matchups with the Bulldogs, all three of which have been wins and taken place in Smithfield.
SCOUTING BROWN
• Brown sophomore wide receiver Graham Walker was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on September 27 after posting career-highs of nine catches for 132 yards and one touchdown last Friday at Harvard. Through two games, he leads the Bears with 156 yards receiving on 12 receptions.
• Entering this weekend, Brown boasts the sixth-best passing offense in the nation with 345.0 yards per game.
• Individually, Brown has players ranked in the top 10 nationally in four statistical categories: EJ Perry leads all of FCS in completions per game (35.5), ranks fifth nationally in total offense (369.0) and sixth in passing yards per game (345.0). Wideout Wes Rockett ranks seventh in FCS with 7.5 receptions per game.
• Hayes Sutton has 11 catches for 122 yards, including a team-high 78 receiving yards on seven catches and a touchdown against URI.
• Backup QB Michael McGovern has four catches for 42 yards thus far.
• Allan Houston III has eight catches for 54 yards.
Defensively, Joseph Shell (15 tackles), Junior Gafa (14) and Malcolm Brunson (11) all have double-digit tackles to lead the Bears.
SCOUTING BRYANT
• Bryant is 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Northeast Conference after beating Marist on Saturday (Sept. 25).
• The Bulldogs are 1-0 on their home turf, having played three games on the road through the first four weeks.
• Rookie quarterback Zevi Eckhaus has gotten the most snaps under center for the Bulldogs. Eckhaus has thrown for 517 yards and four touchdowns. The freshman is completing 62% of his passes and has one interception in 91 pass attempts. Eckhaus' best game of the season came in the Bulldogs last outing against Marist, where he went 22-for-29 (75.9%) with a season-high two touchdowns.
• Freshman Fabrice Mukendi and senior Daniel Adeboboye are the top two rushers on the team. Mukendi leads the squad with 226 yards, averaging 56.5 yards per game and has scored a team-high three touchdowns. Adeboboye has 124 yards on 39 carries for an average of 31 yards per game and has reached the end zone twice.
• Anthony Frederick and Gary Cooper have been the top-two receiving targets on the young season. Both players are averaging over 30 yards per game. Frederick is tops on the team in receptions (12), yards (123) and touchdowns (2)
• Bryant is allowing 25.8 points per game and is giving up 227 yards through the air and 156 on the ground. In three of the four games this year, Bryant has allowed over 224 yards passing and the Bulldogs have allowed opposing teams to score eight times through the air.

After this week's in-state clash, Brown will return home to host Colgate for the final non-league matchup of the season on Saturday, October 9.
